Florida Museum of Natural History/Butterfly Exhibit

So I like learning. This sometimes gets lost in my endless cycle of manic depression that is an direct result of being a small business owner/entrepreneur. It seems like I’ve wanted to go to the Butterfly exhibit for three or four years now and just never got around to it. When Amber suggested we go this weekend, I thought it sounded like a great idea!

The Butterfly exhibit was one of the most breathtaking things I’ve done in some time. Maybe I’m getting old or just don’t do exciting things anymore, but I was in awe. The colors of flowers and vegetation, the finches and quail, the pond/stream, and of course the butterflies! It was beautiful and peaceful to freely walk through the exhibit and to take in the nature that was surrounding me…and the occasional loud child! =)

After making certain there were no hitchhikers on us, we explored the rest of the museum. I’ve come to the realization that I love learning and knowledge but I’m not an intellectual. I place no value on debating about or speaking of various ideals, experiences, and thoughts…frankly it bores me and holds no interest for me. I just like learning and experiencing new things and the joy for me is in the experience.

Some of the exhibits in the museum included items and information on Native Florida Indian cultures. I was impressed by the silver and gold trinkets and artifacts recovered by several digs. I had a good time screwing around in some of the exhibits, being the big kid that I am. I was impressed by the Meglodon exhibit. Wow! Some of the shark, jaw fossils pulled out of the Saint John’s river…*shiver*. Anything that can swallow me with room to spare while I’m standing straight up is pretty freakin’ big! Along with the sharks (and merchandising tie-ins) it was interesting to see the various fossils and recreations of creatures that existed in Florida millions of years ago.

Of course on the way out I had to take one last, silly photo but would you expect anything less from me?

Several photos below and more are here.

Damn three or four years and you haven’t gone. Andrea dragged me their the second weekend we were living here. But it is definitely a interesting place. We also control that building if you saw some tiny little white boxes on the wall that said Johnson Controls also the fire alarm pull stations are ours as well.
